Flick’s conditions for renewing his contract with Barcelona

Hansi Flick is keen to extend his contract, which expires in 2026, for another season, until 2027 , although he won’t be signing a blank check. The German coach wants a series of conditions to be met that sound very plausible and which the club is already working on.

First and foremost, Barça must maintain its stable of young players. Gavi, Pedri, Cubarsí, Balde, and Araujo have already renewed their contracts, and the next player to sign is Lamine Yamal , which will happen in the summer when he turns 18 and is granted a contract commensurate with his age group . His agent, Jorge Mendes, has stated on more than one occasion that there will be no problem.

Two other players Flick wants to keep are Eric Garcia and Frenkie de Jong, whose contracts expire in 2026. Two players who seemed secondary at the start of the season have gained importance as the matches have gone by.

Likewise, the German has also recommended securing contracts for two players with spectacular performances, Koundé and Raphinha . Their contracts expire in 2027, but Barça wants to extend them until 2030 and 2029, respectively.

Deco and Bojan

Stability on the pitch must also be reflected in the front office. In this sense, Fick feels very comfortable with the current sporting directors, with Deco and Bojan, with whom he’s had a good rapport since their first meeting in London before signing .

The manager already told them that he didn’t think many changes were necessary, and his prediction has come true. The signing of Dani Olmo alone has been enough to show Barça once again in a position to fight for every title.

A ‘9’ and a goalkeeper

Flick and Deco have everything very clear , and in terms of transfers, there are two strategic positions where investment should be focused: center forward and goalkeeper . Both positions are covered for next season with the contract extensions of Robert Lewandowski and Szczesny . However, these players are unlikely to continue in 2027, or if they do, they should already have a replacement.

Flick is satisfied with Ferran Torres’ performance as a number 9 , but believes a more established player with a long-term future is needed. The same applies to the goalkeeper, where Marc-André Ter Stegen won’t have an unlimited stay and another goalkeeper is needed, with a “Tek” who will have fulfilled his mission and an Iñaki Peña with few future prospects , given his midseason decline.

A residence

The cards are on the table with the various details, but the Flick project includes a more ambitious step: the construction of a residence , where the players can live together and not have to travel to a hotel to concentrate or have their own rooms to rest after training.

Flck wants to foster the concept of being a family within the locker room , and to do so, he believes it’s important to have a shared space where everyone can feel at home.

Some major European clubs already have this type of facility, such as Real Madrid in Valdebebas , but Barça built the new Masia with grassroots football in mind, although there is also the possibility of expanding it to provide first-team players with a place to concentrate.

Flick is a coach who is approachable and sociable with his players, although he also likes discipline and clear rules . The freedom players enjoyed in the past, such as not concentrating before games, is over, and logically, the German wants to increase the level of rigor.
