“I have played with the likes of Thiago Silva, Rudiger and others but this particular Arsenal teammate is better than them combined… He’s young but I’m learning alot from him”: Kai Havertz says Arsenal has a particular defender who’s better than Thiago Silva and Rudiger Combined

The 23-year-old has quickly become one of the Premier League’s standout talents, playing a crucial role in Arsenal’s title challenge during the 2022-23 season.

After several loan spells away from the club, Saliba has firmly established himself in Mikel Arteta’s lineup, forming a solid defensive partnership with Brazilian teammate Gabriel.

Saliba made history last season as the first outfield player in Arsenal’s history to play every minute of a Premier League campaign. His efforts helped Arsenal finish just two points behind Manchester City while securing the league’s best defensive record.

In addition to his club success, Saliba has become a key figure for France, earning 23 international caps and playing a significant role for Les Bleus at Euro 2024. Despite his growing reputation, Saliba believes that winning titles is the next step in his career progression.

In an interview with Fox Sports Mexico, Saliba expressed confidence in his abilities but stressed that trophies are what distinguish great players from the best.

“I’ve been on the right track for both seasons, especially last season,” Saliba said. “I may be on my way to becoming the best defender in the world. I think I’m one of the best right now, but to claim that, I need to win titles. That’s what I’m missing.”

He continued, “If you win titles, you’re considered great, but if you don’t, you can’t claim to be the best. That’s how I see it. I’m one of the best in the world, but I need those trophies.”
